This restaurant is a great choice for a romantic evening out, even though the atmosphere is a trifle stuffy. If you're game (sorry!), try the venison chops (but they're small and usually chewy) or the seared quail and ostrich combo (ditto). For slightly tamer palates, there's veal tenderloin with Maine lobster meat and morel sauce, rack of lamb in an awakening mustard tarragon sauce, and shrimp and scallops sautéed with spicy tomato cream and served over pasta. The menu has fixed-price options (five or six courses). Maison & Jardin has one of the best wine cellars around; it's been honored by Wine Spectator magazine for an outstanding selection (1,200 varieties).
